Marilynn's GoodReads updates

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

I wanted to find examples of the many windows and lamps that Clara Driscoll designed / worked on while heading the Women's department at Tiffany Studios.  The author did all that and more on her Website about Clara and Mr. Tiffany.  I will show these pages to spur discussion at our book group.

August Discussion Cancelled

Because of vacations our August Book Discussion has been cancelled.  We will be reading Mrs. Mike by Benedict Freedman for the September 19th meeting.  We will discuss The Paris Wife and A Movable Feast together in October.  Please ask to check out our kindle, print, or audio copies of A Paris Wife anytime before October as it is still difficult to get multiple copies through inter-library loan.  Enjoy the rest of the summer and I'll see you in September.....

UPDATE: The Evening Book Discussion group has also been cancelled for August and will resume in September, see the sidebar to the left for details

Goodreads review

People of the BookPeople of the Book by Geraldine Brooks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great book and great book discussion!  We started off with history of the real Sarajevo Haggadah and I projected pictures from this website:  http://www.haggadah.ba/

Everyone was fascinated with the historical and scientific research involved in producing this book.

Date Change of Daytime Discussion

The September Daytime Book Discussion has been changed to Wednesday, Sept. 21. at 1:30 in the library.

Time and Again by Jack Finney

Because it was difficult to get multiple copies of Cutting for Stone the group decided to read Time and Again for our September meeting. Ellen recommended this book and it is one of my favorites.

Ruby's Spoon by Anna Lawrence Pietroni

The dialect used in the book about a small town in the English midlands made the reading difficult for many in the group. I found some interesting information about the author and her book searching the Web.

Here is the author introducing her book in a small midland town. This video really brings Cradle Cross to life.

Ms. Pietroni gives a book reading at the Harvard Book Store. This is a long video but gives the reader a lot of insight into the author and the process of writing her book.

Reading Group Guides

I just signed our book group up at Reading Group Guides. This is a great Website with lots of ideas and reviews of books to read and discuss, contests for free books, newsletters, polls, upcoming books and, of course, reading group guides.
